Third-ear Transmissions

 

 

Third-ear Transmissions, is an ongoing encounter between sound artists, the interdisciplinary research group LabARD (Arts Research Laboratory in Decoloniality), and the SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art’s team

The group exhibition was presented at SBC Gallery in Montreal, aiming to broaden our diverse listening perspectives. We each contributed by bringing our own ‘instruments’ : music methodologies, personal experiences, and sound reflections. This exercise of bridging our various practices enabled a dialogue between existing works, the development of different activations, and the design of a common scenography.

The exhibition space and planned activities, filled with our personal objects, were conceived as spaces for intimate engagement. The installation adapts the gallery as a site for thinking in conversation with others by welcoming audiences to listen otherwise: by attunement, inter-listening, active listening, inquiry, collective listening and embodiment via walks, jam sessions, performances, conversatorios*, workshops, and reading sessions.

This project involved Antoine Bertron, Nuria Carton de Grammont, Alexandre Castonguay, Manuel Chantre, Naima Dionne, Minette Carole Djamen Nganso, Vir-Andrés Hera, Philippe-Aubert Gauthier, Amanda Gutiérrez, Romeo Gongora, Geronimo Inutiq, Maria Paula Lonegro, Carla Rangel, and Martín Rodríguez.

* A conversatorio is a space constructed through open dialogue, where reciprocity as well as contradiction create new perspectives departing from each participant’s specific positionality.
