Pirate Radio Scores for the Missing Waves
This work featured two pirate radio scores, performed on the airwaves of CDMX and Brooklyn. Each score is site-specific, activated in relation to the terrestrial radio transmissions of its city. In 2025, the performances were broadcast via one FM transmitter on vacant channels, audible to anyone tuning in with a radio receiver within a short range. The cassette tapes on the table contained sonic renditions of these scores, which can be replayed and re-transmitted via FM waves from Selva Gallery in the neighborhood of Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY.
The installation evoked the setup of a basic radio transmission, inviting visitors to listen to recorded versions of these scores in the gallery. The live broadcast signal carried beyond the walls, allowing the transmission to be received on radios both inside and outside Selva Gallery on 106.01 FM.
To activate the piece, audiences were invited to press PLAY and listen to the soundtrack through the radios located in the gallery. Audiences were free to take the radio outside the gallery and look up at the sky, where the sound waves were being transmitted.
